It starts with with a work of art. This three-day professional development course introduces K-12 classroom educators, specialists and administrators to the Gateway Arts in Education Partnership. This approach to teaching engages imagination, inspires creativity and develops perception and critical thinking skills.

Based on the core belief that works of art provide inexhaustible opportunities for learning, the Gateway Arts in Education Institute invites participants to experience three works of art through inquiry, art-making, careful attending, context and reflection. Guided by teaching artists, attendees explore the choices made by the artists in creating the works under study and uncover how these works of art can be integrated into their curriculum, providing opportunities for deep learning with their students
  • Revitalize your joy of teaching and learning through active exploration of works of art
  • Use the power of the arts to motivate and inspire your students
  • Partner with fellow classroom teachers, art and music specialists, even your principal!
  • Energize your classroom with a teaching artist residency

“This work is so needed...there is so little time for music and art in the schools anymore. This contributes to the teaching and learning goals of our school in making a well-rounded child – not just math and reading smart! We created an entire wall of writing outside our classroom. The student writings about this experience were amazing!”
